Saloon Night With Friends
The first Tuesday of each month we bring in singers, musicians or other people with talent from the community to perform for veteran residents in their Defenders’ Inn in the Scott Building on campus. We also assist in setting up and taking down the event, we help serve veterans food and drink, and we socialize with residents during the event. The activity runs from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Write volunteerfriendsofsoldiers(at)gmail.com if you can help.

Jingo
The second Thursday of each month we help elderly disabled veterans get to and from the Jingo game, and we assist those who without our help would not be able to play the game. Volunteers arrive at 6 p.m. at the Scott Building and are finished by 8 p.m. Write volunteerfriendsofsoldiers(at)gmail.com if you can help!

Bowling With Friends
On the third Tuesday of each month we help assisted living residents get to the bowling lanes on campus, then we form teams and help them with the bowling activity. We also socialize with the residents and have fun! We also help serve refreshments to the residents who are participating in the event. Afterward, we clean up and help assisted living residents get back to their rooms. This event begins at 6 p.m. and goes until 8:30 p.m. Write volunteerfriendsofsoldiers(at)gmail.com if you would like to participate.

Happy Hour With Friends
The last Tuesday of each month we assist elderly disabled veterans to and from Happy Hour. With our partners the Nam Knights Washington Chapter, we serve them food and drink during the event and visit with them. We also help set up and take down. This activity runs from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Scott Building. Write volunteerfriendsofsoldiers(at)gmail.com if you can help.

Community Celebrations
We will need many volunteers to help the day of Friends community celebrations at the Armed Forces Retirement Home-D.C. in 2019. These outdoor festivals are wonderful ways to meet veterans and fellow community members. If you can help with these events, write volunteerfriendsofsoldiers(at)gmail.com.

2019 Garden Project
Friends of the Soldiers Home pairs community volunteers with residents to work in the gardens on the Soldiers’ Home campus. If you would like to garden at the Soldiers Home, please reach out to the garden coordinator, Matt Ling, early in 2019 at matthew(dot)ling(at)gmail.com

DCCX Bike Race
Top athletes in the sport of cyclo-cross will descend on the Armed Forces Retirement Home-Washington on Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 19 and 20, for the 13th annual DCCX. DCMTB, a grass-roots team of mountain bikers that puts on the race, are great supporters of Friends of the Soldiers Home. 2019 Trash Cleanup
Nov. 2, 2019. On the first Saturday of each November, Friends has partnered with organizations including Georgia Avenue Thrive and Daughters of the American Revolution to pick up trash in and around the Soldiers Home. To participate, , write volunteerfriendsofsoldiers(at)gmail.com.
