Happy Hour

Friends of the Soldiers Home solidified its partnership with Nam Knights Capital Chapter in a festive celebration with residents of the Armed Forces Retirement Home-Washington on the evening of Tuesday, Aug. 29.

Dozens of residents gathered for food, drink, music and joke telling in the large community room of the Scott Building on the AFRH-Washington campus.

Nam Knights brings in the drinks for the celebration and join FOSH volunteers in mingling and serving treats to the veterans. AFRH staffer Carol Mitchell leads the joke telling while AFRH resident Ray plays the tunes.

The monthly event, called Happy Hour, happens the last Tuesday evening of each month. If you would like to be part of the fun, write FOSH Volunteer Coordinator Lori Lincoln at volunteerfriendsofsoldiers(at)gmail(dot)com. This is an outstanding way to connect with many great men and women who served the country and now live in Washington, D.C.

Jingo, Volunteering

Once each week, Friends of the Soldiers Home organizes volunteers for the Armed Forces Retirement Home-Washington. On Thursday, Aug. 10 we played Happy Birthday Jingo and recognized the many birthdays being celebrated during the month. With the exception of one game, the lively crew at the back table took home all the money! Jingo always happens the second Thursday evening of each month. Our next game is Sept. 14 — mark it on your calendar and join us! Drop a line to volunteerfriendsofsoldiers(at)gmail(dot)com.

Happy Hour, Nam Knights Capital Chapter, Volunteering

Friends of the Soldiers Home and Nam Knights Capital Chapter love to partner in volunteering for Happy Hour on the last Tuesday evening of the month at Armed Forces Retirement Home-Washington. As the photos from the last event show, we finally got a summer opportunity to enjoy Happy Hour on the rooftop of the Scott Building! We were all so glad to be out there, watching the retiring sun, enjoying the breeze, the conversation, the music and so much more. Happy Hour on the rooftop! It couldn’t be better. There’s so much we do with the residents, and for the residents – come and join us. To be part of the fun at the next Happy Hour, write Lori Lincoln at volunteerfriendsofsoldiers(at)gmail(dot)com.

Bowling, Volunteering

Tuesday Aug. 15 is the next Friends of the Soldiers Home bowling night — join us! You can see from these photos of the July bowling night how much fun we have. This is a wonderful way to give back to veterans, as we volunteers assist residents who would not be able to use the bowling alley on their own. Plus, you will get a chance to roll some balls of your own at the Armed Forces Retirement Home-Washington alley.

If you would like to join us for this early evening event, write FOSH Volunteer Coordinator Lori Lincoln at volunteerfriendsofsoldiers(at)gmail(dot)com
